The Dream to Dance Scholarship Fund As a locally recognized dance school that has proudly served the San Francisco community with outstanding professional quality dance instruction for students ages two to adults for the past 20 years, Shan-Yee Poon Ballet School is committed to providing excellent dance education and in using dance as a positive guide through the formative years of children. With this belief, Ms. Shan-Yee Poon and SYPBS parents formed the Dream to Dance Scholarship Fund seven years ago. The fund's mission is to provide talented and dedicated dancers from financially challenged backgrounds with the opportunity to study dance at SYPBS. Ballet is a graceful and beautiful art form. Dance provides many important tools that teach a child the value of hard work, self-discipline and striving for excellence. The training at SYPBS also builds strong self-esteem and character. Transforming a child’s life in these positive ways has a ripple effect that will benefit the community at large. As funding for academic school arts is drastically cut, and the economy continues to waiver, the Dream to Dance Committee, the committee that raises money for the fund, wants to provide this valuable training to as many children as possible. The committee annually awards four to five scholarships to students. Through its fundraising efforts with SYPBS families and the local communities, its vision is to provide these economically disadvantaged talented young dancers the opportunity to blossom and thrive within the nurturing and careful training provided by SYPBS. This year, the committee would like to help more talented students qualify. SYPBS's upcoming 21st Annual Performance will be an important event for the Dream to Dance Scholarship Fund, as it will be an opportunity for fundraising toward the goal of helping more students. The committee will hold an online silent auction starting on the fourth week of June, and an onsite silent auction, food concessions, and flowers sales at the 21st Annual Performance on Saturday, June 26. The committee invites you to be a member, donate or solicit for goods, services or sponsorships to this important cause. All donations will be prominently displayed at the performances. The committee would like to reach its goal of providing five to ten more scholarships in the 2010-2011 school year. Please know that your efforts and donations will allow dedicated and talented students to achieve their "Dream to Dance". Your generosity will have a tremendous impact on the success of this incredible scholarship program. Most importantly, your contribution will immediately touch the lives of these well deserving children and plant the seed that will transform these dancers into beautiful individuals who move with grace and confidence through life. Direct cash, check or item donations can be tax-deductible. Please write checks payable to "Dancers' Group" and on the memo write "For SYPBS DTD". |
