Shan-Yee Poon School of Performing Arts Hip Hop Dance Program for children, youth and teens

Students will learn the skills to execute all styles of hip-hop technique, including popping, breaking, locking, house, and popular grooves—old school and new. This is a dynamic hip-hop class with cutting edge choreography. The focus of the class is to build a strong technical foundation in hip-hop movement while also building performance quality and musicality. Each class includes a warm up (focusing on isolations of the body, conditioning, and stretching,) floor-work, technique, and combinations. Students will learn to improvise or "freestyle." This class is highly aerobic, teaching movement grounded in strength and confidence, and building quickness and agility of the body and mind.

Lower Division Hip Hop

Beginning Hip Hop (5-7 yrs. old)

This energetic class is fun and cool! Students will learn the basic skills to execute the different styles of hip-hop technique. Hip-hop teaches students to deliver movements with style, grounded in strength and confidence.

They will have a ton of fun as they learn how to isolate and control different parts of their body. Your child will be coming home and showing you their new tricks of popping, breaking and grooving.

Hip Hop 1B (7-11 yrs. old)

This is a fun and highly aerobic class. The focus of the class is to build a strong technical foundation in hip-hop movement while also building performance quality with a positive attitude of flair and style.

Each class includes a warm up (isolations, conditioning and stretching), floor work, technique and combinations. Our dancers have a blast developing the skills to execute all styles of hip-hop moves. As they are popping, breaking and grooving they are continuing to build grounded strength, agility and musicality.

Hip Hop 2 & 1A (9-18 yrs. old)

This is a highly energetic hip-hop class with cutting edge choreography. The dancers are refining their technique in all styles of hip hop, including popping, breaking, locking, house, and popular grooves- old and new school. Hip-hop training increases mental and physical strength, as the choreography is often upbeat, quick in tempo and intricate in movement.

The students are encouraged to be creative as they develop their personal freestyle and technical virtuosity.
