Dance Program Descriptions
Comprehensive Ballet Program
Our specially designed, 15-level ballet curriculum is an integration of the English Royal Ballet System of training, and Russian Vaganova methodology. Each age appropriate level prepares the dancer for advancement into the higher divisions of ballet through a carefully developed progression that builds motor skills, focus and coordination. The dancer masters preparatory steps before learning more advanced dance vocabulary. Our training builds a lyrical upper body, strength, precision and agility into the dancers. Our students’ love for dance is encouraged as they receive individualized attention in a curriculum filled with imagery, creativity and imagination.
Boys’ Dance Classes – Boys’ Ballet Class, Jazz, Tap, Hip Hop, & Tumbling for Dancers
Dance is a physical and athletic activity requiring great skill, strength, and agility. Sounds like an ideal fit for energetic boys…so where are they?? Well, we know that public perception is difficult to change and, in general, the current perception is that dance is not a “manly” activity. For ballet and some other dance styles, the aesthetic is for movement to look effortless. Even though the audience knows that men in dance must be in top physical form, beauty and elegance mask the difficult moves and athleticism of dance.
Boys’ Ballet Class
This class is for both the dancer and for those boys who have never set foot in a dance studio. The practice develops skill sets important in various sports such as basketball and hockey, and also is helpful for those interested in other performing arts such as theatre. The boy’s class starts out with flexibility exercises, a set of stretches with focus on the hamstrings and lower back. The agility portion of class uses jump ropes and balls for foot placement, coordination and rhythmic skills. Basic ballet barre works helps the boys with body stature, posture, balance and warm up the lower body leg joints. Finally, strong leaps for elevation finish the workout.
